[Self] Calligraphy Exhibition Jan 09

Sunday afternoon was spent looking at some calligraphy pieces in the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (which is actually in KL somewhere at the end of Chinatown).

Although I was dissapointed at the extremely small scale of the entire display and also the creativity (in the poetics and writing style), there were a few pieces worth capturing on the camera phone.

My fav was: 未受天磨非好汉, 不遭人忌是庸才

A bad translation would be: If you haven't endured the challenges from The Heavens, you aren't a man; if you haven't aroused jealousy & ire from people, (that's because) you merely lack talent.

  • nolah.
second part should be: if dont spend your time being jealous about others you are a true scholar (because you would then be spending more time pursuing study)

  • Keen, prefer your version... anyway you and Bungo definitely did better than Google:
"Non-day grind of non-hero, not being free is the mediocrity."

  • Ohmygod!! Google's version is absolutely the perfecto translation!! ..... NOT!!!! :D

Anyway, I am *pretty* sure Bungo is wrong.

After all, I did go to China twice already and spent long periods there, so just by just this virtue alone - I already have a morality and cultural superiority complex over Bungo ;)
