[wtH] Dumb LRT Machines

I take the LRT quite frequently these days. The whole system pisses me off by several degrees. Grouses aplenty let's list them down:

- There is a perpetual stream of people lining up to get tickets from the counter - when there are ticketing machines several feet away!!
- These eggheads buy the paper tickets which are non-reusable, when the card version is a perfectly viable option. In the first instance, the fact that Putra sells paper tickets is mind boggling.
- Paper based ticketing reveals the ketagihan of Msians to dumb old school ticketing, and our general "machinephobia". It also reveals a greater pathetic social agenda - at least 2 more unnecessary counter folks per station are needed, plus 1 jaga-fella per station at the gateway.
- The machines suck!! It breaks down so often they even have stickers on top saying "If the machine is not working please go to the counter". So there you go .... all that capital investment is never to reach its intended IRR as Msians continue to adopt unnecessary labor intensive processes business practices.
- "Mesin in tak boleh pakai nota RM 10". In fact, if you feed it into the machine, it actually recognizes the value as some weird numeric "38653" (or whatever). Sloppy sloppy sloppy! If I had nothing else better to do and had a hoard load of cash, would launch a class action suit against Putra for non-acceptance of perfectly legal tender.
- When the machines do work - and if they need to give you change, it can agonizingly take the longest time! Just today, it took a machine about 60 seconds to drop 2 measley 10 cent coins - must have been suffering from some digital constipation. More likely: some Ah-Pek behind the machine/wall was fumbling around to get the coins and finally dropped them into some funnel.

One the plus side, there is a resemblence of queueing at the LRT station these days. So there is still hope for civilization advancement (though not much).

2 Comments:

  • I remember what happened the last time with the machines...

They can only accept 1 note. i.e. If your fare is RM2.20, you can only insert 1 ringgit note, it will never accept the second note.

    dumbasses.

  • Ah u have suffered too! Yeah that was a grouse I forgot to add in. Compared to the machines available in Nihon, SG, and even BKK, ours are so dodgy!

Could we actually have a more trustworthy crony to implement new systems for the LRTs? And dare we dream of an integrated system for mass transportation?
