[Self] Ramblings on History Lessons

Been shelled up past week taking in huge doses of Ancient China history. Finished the last disc for the RO3K lecture series, and then something about the foundings of the Han Dynasty (Liu Bang vs Xiang Hu, plus a whole of other issues too), and also stopped at the how Han Wu Ti ascended to the throne despite being no. 10 in line. These were history lessons and perspectives by some Chinese lecturers.

Also, just in the processof downloading the latest episode of of the Napoleon 101 Podcast, and I remember I still haven't done any reading about Talleyrand, Metternich, nor Fouche despite wanting to late last year. The podcast is done by a cool guy who is a retired teacher.

But one very interesting thing - when the (mainland) Chinese lecture, they at least are more devoted into the multiple aspects of what could have actually transpired and why. The Westerners still tend to have their opinions tempered by a weil of political correctness which makes it less interesting, more bland and less based on reality.

Now .... it is time for less of history, and time to catch up on The West Wing Season 5 ...

  • Yo dude,
I'm on West Wing season 5 too... love the part where POTUS "walks" to the Hill.
Anyway, please give details of new job... esp email.
Could you also send me the podcast on Napoleon?
The Chinese historical stuff... I'm sure that's in Mandarin no?

  • West Wing Seasons 1-3 were good. Season 4 was kindof OK, but Season 5 seems to be going downhill.

Sure, having the Republican House Speaker acting as Temp President was cool (John Goodman did a good job), and the government shutdown thing was cool fiction based on some reality (it was Clinton vs Gingrich back in 1998 I think).

But other than that, Season 5 was a YAAAAAAWWWNNN. I'll still find the willpower and hope Season 6 and 7 is better.

For the Napoleon Podcast - download iTunes first, then click on napoleon.thepodcastnetwork.com/ to subscribe FOC.

Have u seen Boston Legal Season 3 - really great stuff man. But the Clarent-Claire-Clavent-Clarence thing was too weird for me.

  • If that's what you think about Season5, 6&7 won't be much better. 7's all about the the next guy on campaign. A few episodes are ok but most of it's a bore. I have too much free time on my hands though, so I've watched them all at least 3 times over.
BL Season 3 - not yet. Waiting to get it.
Also still craving for BG man... damm it

  • BG (BSG you mean?) is getting boring too - they are running out of creativity. I heard Season 4 of BSG is the last one and thank goodness; they even came up with lame spinoffs like "Razor" which was boring with one really small exception.

That's the problem when series are extended beyond their shelf life. I hope they end Boston Legal by Season 5 on a high note. Same for Lost (seeing Season 4) and Prison Break (seen Season 2) too they seem to be pretty OK.

But why are we talking about TV?! So I need updates about them Jbabes - sendhere@keensoon.com man!
