[Self] Magnolia Kindof Feel

Weird - it what was going to be a non-eventful night, then a phonecall got me bumping into a few good friends and some people I knew in a very short space of time:

Hwa Li
Adapter Boy + May
Kenny & Ms Lee
Hoi Yen + Wai Leong

And then a weird SMS from Tissues, and subsequently a call to breakfast with quite a few ex-colleagues @ SS2.

[Whoa!] 0.99999 = 1

I saw this on G4 (formerly Tech TV) a few weeks back. I think the person who showed this was the girl from The Wonderyears. Thought I better jot it down before I forgot:

How 0.999... = 1
Let x = 0.999999

<=> 10x = 9.999999
<=> 10x-x = 9.999999 - 0.999999
<=> 9x = 9.000000
<=> 9x/9 = 9.000000/9
<=> x = 1 (QED)

I mean like ... whoa !! Logic is flawed!!

[Self] The Mule / Swing On A Star

An all time great from Bing Crosby:

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
Kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He has no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish
A new kind of jumped-up slippery fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star

[wtH] Warp 15 and counting

The past 15 weeks have come and gone so fast it felt like just 1 single week! If that is the equivalent of Warp 15, I have not reached the final point of acceleration yet to achieve terminal velocity.

Coincidently upon some checking:
- Warp as a measure of speed is a fictional Star Trek unit!
- Terminal velocity is defined as: The terminal velocity of an object falling towards the ground, in non- vacuum, is the speed at which the gravitional force pulling it downwards is equal and opposite to the atmospheric drag (also called air resistance) pushing it upwards. At this speed, the object ceases to accelerate downwards and falls at constant speed.

I'm thinking of cracking a wry, bad one about terminal illness and terminal velocity but am dry out of inspiration. Guess I am totally warped out.

[wtH] Dumb LRT Machines

I take the LRT quite frequently these days. The whole system pisses me off by several degrees. Grouses aplenty let's list them down:

- There is a perpetual stream of people lining up to get tickets from the counter - when there are ticketing machines several feet away!!
- These eggheads buy the paper tickets which are non-reusable, when the card version is a perfectly viable option. In the first instance, the fact that Putra sells paper tickets is mind boggling.
- Paper based ticketing reveals the ketagihan of Msians to dumb old school ticketing, and our general "machinephobia". It also reveals a greater pathetic social agenda - at least 2 more unnecessary counter folks per station are needed, plus 1 jaga-fella per station at the gateway.
- The machines suck!! It breaks down so often they even have stickers on top saying "If the machine is not working please go to the counter". So there you go .... all that capital investment is never to reach its intended IRR as Msians continue to adopt unnecessary labor intensive processes business practices.
- "Mesin in tak boleh pakai nota RM 10". In fact, if you feed it into the machine, it actually recognizes the value as some weird numeric "38653" (or whatever). Sloppy sloppy sloppy! If I had nothing else better to do and had a hoard load of cash, would launch a class action suit against Putra for non-acceptance of perfectly legal tender.
- When the machines do work - and if they need to give you change, it can agonizingly take the longest time! Just today, it took a machine about 60 seconds to drop 2 measley 10 cent coins - must have been suffering from some digital constipation. More likely: some Ah-Pek behind the machine/wall was fumbling around to get the coins and finally dropped them into some funnel.

One the plus side, there is a resemblence of queueing at the LRT station these days. So there is still hope for civilization advancement (though not much).
